Should You Be Solo Travelling?

Do you solo travel? If you haven’t yet, ask yourself: why not? If you’re married, a solo weekend away can reinforce feelings of gratefulness in your life. Or if you’re single, it’ll spark a fire to do MORE in life, I promise you.

Getting older S-U-C-K-S. I put on weight really easy. Grey hairs are sprouting parties on my head. And I can’t stay up all night dancing ’til dawn anymore without needing two days to recover! NOT FUN!

Solo travelling though, now that’s fun.

Saying it’s a blessing sounds very Instagrammy and fake. It also makes it sound like something out of my control but it isn’t. I choose it. Crave it. Am addicted to it. I can’t imagine a life without it.

If you’re a man or a woman, doesn’t matter. Travel gets infused in your blood and you can’t get it out. Solo travel, even more! Because we all know how fun it is to travel with our best friends. The laughs and adventures. The good times we get to rehash over and over again as the years go on.

But solo travel is distinct. It challenges us in ways that group travel can’t. We have to rely on our wits, intuition, smarts, and a sense of adventure! We have to trust other humans and humanity in a way that can be challenging or uncomfortable.

Solo travel might seem scary if you haven’t done it but it’s truly the most liberating and empowering form of travel, beyond hiking Everest or diving with sharks.

And whether you start in your teens like me or wait until 50 … the rewards are insane. You feel like you can conquer the world. Or simply go for that job you’ve always wanted but didn’t apply yourself for. You feel an extra boost of confidence that wasn’t there before. And determined to not let life hold you down.

Having a comfy life is great. But challenging yourself to be the best and most intuitive version of yourself is even better.

Solo travel is a gift that not all in this world will be privileged enough to experience so if you can do it, don’t waste that chance. I can’t imagine ever stopping — even if I fall in love one day and settle down!
