Last week I was talking with a friend about solo travel on our weekly Malaysia travel radio show and his answer was a common one: that as someone in a relationship (married), he doesn’t feel that solo travel is for him. And that makes sense. It could feel hurtful to a partner who sees it as a slight against them or who takes it personally that their loved one should want to spend a few days alone.
But after the past couple of years, I believe that solo travel could do a world of good for all of us, no matter if we’re single or in a relationship. It can rejuvenate our core — our soul — better than most anything else. It also helps to re-focus on what’s most important in life.
I know girls and women often feel solo travel is dangerous but I was only 20 years old on my 1st international solo trip and I promise you — based on decades of experience — what we need most to solo travel is common sense to stay safe, a little money, and a spirit of adventure.
So what’s the top benefit of solo travel??? >> MUCH-NEEDED SELF-LOVE
Self-love is a basic human necessity, not a moral flaw or an act of selfishness. In 2022, there is more thrown at us, more that we live with, than at any other time in history. we need time to ourselves. Time to breathe. Time to realign ourselves.
I wholeheartedly believe solo travel can help anyone to appreciate what you have in life. It also can do more, faster, to maintain one’s own mental health!
If you’re in a relationship, imagine if you both adventured out at the same time, for just a couple of days! You’ll both return home with amazing stories and a recharged outlook on life.
All benefits, no downside ❤️
