SHUT UP & GO BACK HOME š”
- Go back to the U.S.
- Go back to your loved ones
- Go back to your homeland where you belong
This post isnāt about racism yet I am receiving comments like these daily since deciding to share (confess?) more honestly on social media again. In addition to fun travel moments, Iāve returned to my “tell it all” blogger roots: sharing what itās like being a single digital nomad travelling abroad.
My truth triggers some people but itās not a racism thing. Commenters are mostly misogynistic men but there are a few women, too, who must live in a bubble and havenāt seen first-hand that there are many ways to live in this world (or who donāt have a “live and let liveā spirit!).
HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS for lots of us in this world.
Iām from Southern California. Born in L.A., grew up surrounded by orange trees, mountains, and deserts in Redlands, moved to Newport Beach during my uni years ⦠but none of my family live in any of those places anymore. So even if I went back to the USA, which I hope to never do, where is this āhomeā Iām supposed to belong to?
My daughter lives in Belgium, Mom in Florida, and my brother & sister live in different states. But thatās not the point. I digress.
CHOOSING A NON-TRADITIONAL LIFE
The point is that some of us are different. So is where we belong. We are comfortable taking mitigated risks with our lives and lifestyle that seem unwise to others. We like change, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures & food, and are ok when life gets scrappy.
The best way to sum it up is to say that the WORLD is our home and its PEOPLE are our neighbours.
CRAVING THE EXOTIC
My heart desires travel and adventure. The last time I lived in the US was 2+ decades ago when my daughter was 5 months old. In many ways it felt more responsible but I also felt handcuffed to a life I didnāt want. It was suffocating and within seven years my daughter and I moved back to Spain where she was born.
The world is here to be explored. If your heart craves MORE, please go for it. Maybe start with getting a passport and taking your 1st overseas holiday.
Itāll change your life in all the best way, I promise š§³
